Bar owner: Spotted Cat to become Jimbeaux’s
by Stephen Maloney Staff Writer
NEW ORLEANS – Venerable Frenchman Street jazz enclave The Spotted Cat will close its doors this week, but the nightspot will not remain dormant for long.
The Spotted Cat’s current lease will expire at midnight Thursday, but d.b.a. New Orleans owner Tom Thayer said a new bar is set to take its place at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
As you all know, Frankie is celebrating is 95th birthday in NY this May. Unfortunately, Frankie's health is not very good. See description from yehoodi:
"Frankie entered the hospital a week and a half ago, due to problems with his medication. Then on Friday, he was taken into the intensive care unit after he developed pneumonia. It is a very serious situation.

Dear Friends of Frankie,
In this email, we want to send out our thanks for your "Frankie Week" submissions, update you about the reopened registration today, and remind you about the Birthday Greetings for the Frankie 95 Festival Program. So let's get to it!
"FRANKIE WEEK" THANKS
This is going to be amazing! Just some updates-
1. The hotel room block is completely sold out. If you need a hotel, use one of the many internet resources like Travelocity or Expedia.
2. If you would like to request housing, make sure to register first, then you will be prompted to click on a link for housing.
3. The Lindy Hoppers Fund will be sponsoring activities during the day on Thursday, April 16 to help support local lindy hoppers who have been affected by Katrina. More details to follow soon.
Hey everyone,
We've added one more lesson/ review of the Shim Sham for those who couldn't make it this morning. Feel free to come to Dance Quarter at 9:30 pm this upcoming Tuesday to review the Shim Sham.
As for the actual video taping, we will meet at the Gazebo by Woldenberg Park (on the Mississippi River) at 5:00 PM, NOT 12:00 PM. We'll first tape there, then head to the Cathedral to film in front of there once the break dancers are done performing.
Hey lindy hoppers,
As most of you know, Frankie Manning is turning 95 years young this year, and the New Orleans Lindy Hoppers are going to help celebrate!!
The organizers of the Big Birthday Party are asking lindy scenes around the world to video tape themselves doing the Shim Sham (see all of the details below). Here's how you can help:
Hey Everyone,
Do you remember the group The Finer Things who performed at Ernst Cafe last year? They were the only live band we had there (a duo at that ). Well, the best fiddler around, Sick, is in New Orleans for two weeks celebrating his birthday!
Sick's band, Sick's Pack, is performing Wednesday night at the Hi Ho Lounge. They don't know what time the show kicks off, but it's going to be a big party and ALL the dancers are invited!!
Some of the music is danceable, and some isn't, but who cares?! Sick is AMAZING!
Hope to see you all out there!
